CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR CHILD'S PERFORMANCE?
• Emotional Problems such as sadness, worry, fear, and anger can drain a child’s
motivation to learn. Family tension, peer conflicts, and drugs and alcohol can hinder healthy
development.
• Learning Disabilities (LD) can occur even in children with high intelligence.
When LD exists along with ADHD or ADD (see below), children have greater difficulty in
the classroom. The key is to work with strengths, not just addressing weaknesses.
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) includes poor concentration,
impulsivity, disorganization (ADD), and often hyperactivity. ADHD is the most widely diagnosed
childhood disorder. Some think it is diagnosed too readily. Correctly diagnosing ADHD means
ruling out other problems. Busy professionals often overlook this step.
OUR INTERVENTIONS
Achieving long-term improvement for children with emotional problems, ADHD, or learning
problems requires a multi-level approach, including:
- Counseling
- Developing rewards and consequences to motivate your child
- Consulting with parents, teachers, and pediatricians
- Making adjustments in classroom and home settings to fit your child's learning
style
- Developing more successful coping skills
MEDICATION?
Medication for disorders like ADHD can be helpful, but should be used only after ruling
out other treatments, and is most successful when used in combination with therapy. Our
psychiatrists and therapists will work closely with you to determine the necessity of
medication and help you fully understand its implications.
UNDERSTANDING CAUSES
A range of tools are used to help understand the causes of your child’s performance
difficulties. Our in-depth examination provides the information required to make interventions
work.
